Who Jesus Is
Who Is Jesus?
The Biblical record shows Jesus Christ is the Son of God."But these things have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31
Jesus was born of a virgin in Bethlehem.
"The angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." Luke 1:30-33
"While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:6-7
Jesus grew up in Nazareth and lived there until the age of 30.
"When they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth. The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." Luke 2:39-40
For the next 3 years Jesus ministered throughout Palestine. He taught in the synagogues, and on hillsides.
"When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age." Luke 2:23
"And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit. and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all." Luke 4:14
He healed the sick, lame, deaf and blind and restored life and forgave sins.
"As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, 'Have mercy on us, Son of David!' When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, 'Do you believe that I am able to do this?' They said to Him, 'Yes, Lord.' Then He touched their eyes, saying, 'It shall be done to you according to your faith.' And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them: 'See that no one knows about this!'" Matthew 9:27-30
"Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice." Luke 17:15
"And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, 'Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.'" Matthew 9:2
"While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, 'My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.' He said, 'Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.' And they began laughing at Him. But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up." Matthew 9:18, 24 & 25
Jesus lived a sinless life.
"For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15
"Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Mechizedek." Hebrews 5:8-10
Jesus was crucified at age 33 because the religious and political leaders of that time were so angered by His claim that He was the Son of God.
"Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priests, named Caiaphas; and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him." Matthew 26:3-4
"When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left." Luke 23:13
Following His crucifixion He was buried and rose 3 days later. It is the resurrection of Jesus that makes Christianity different from any other religion.
"But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus." Luke 24:1
"The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.'" Matthew 28:5-6
The Bible records more than 500 people saw Jesus alive following His death and burial. The miracle of His resurrection and ascension into Heaven declare that He was no ordinary mortal man.
"And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid; go and take word to my brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see me.'" Matthew 28:8-10
"And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven." Luke 24:50-51
The Old Testament contains the predictions by prophets hundreds of years earlier of Jesus' birth, life, miracles, death and resurrection and every detail came true.
